Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, just a feet away from the Pantheon, this building retains the original structure of the chapel, where lies the tomb of Cardinal Richelieu.

Its origin dates back to 1253 in Sorbonne, when Louis IX ordered the creation of a school to allow 16 students to deepen their theology. The name Sorbonne is derived from  Robert de Sorbon, the confessor of the king. After 1885, this became the most important university of France, gaining prestige and political influence.

If you want to admire the seventeenth-century church, the amphitheater, the courtyard, the library, and the tomb of Richelieu, you can go for guided tours that lasts an hour to an hour and a half. The tours are held Mondays through Fridays. The ticket costs 9 euros per person.
