The Disney Resort in Hawaii

A newest addition to the Disney Vacation Club was opened in August 2011 in Hawaii. The Disney Resort Aulan is located in a privileged position in the area of Ko Olina on the leeward west coast of Oahu, about 20 minutes from the airport, 45 minutes from Waikiiki. The new Disney Resort is located near the JW Marriott Resort and overlooks a beautiful lagoon beach with shallow and calm waters, perfect for children.

We all know that Disney has a great and extraordinary ability to inspire awe and excitement due to the famous theme parks, cruise lines, hotels and media. But, the new resort Aulan brings the magic of Disney to a whole new level through education and cultural awareness.

The word Aulan means: “One who delivers a message from a higher authority.” What is this message and who delivers it? Disney is the messenger and the message is authentic, very Hawaiian. Incredible attention to detail has been paid, to gardens, artwork, curtains, blankets, mats, and authentic Hawaiian architectures. When you walk in the entrance hall known as Makala (=open your eyes and look), Hawaiian art, storytelling, and wildlife will make you believe you walked into a traditional but modern trip paradise.

They commissioned local and talented artisans such as Rocky Jensen, McD Philpots, Solomon Enos, and Dalan Tanahy to adorn the rooms of the Disney resort with artistic elegance. The valley Waikolohe (naughty waters) will make you curious and joyful with its waterfalls, rocks, water and jets. Children will get to discover hidden treasures. Zia’s Beach House is a warm and friendly club, where children can have fun and learn at the same time. Families can snorkel with Hawaiian fish, and adults can relax and enjoy the sunset next to the waterfalls and whirlpools.

A Natural Swimming Pool by the Sea in Hawaii

Seeing and bathing in a huge natural pool of clear water is something you don’t see and experience every day. In Hawaii, there is the Queen’s Bath, a clear body of water that is also formed in a pool of lava by the sea, thus, making it a refreshing viewpoint.

The most beautiful natural pool in Hawaii is located north of Kauai, where you can visit during the summer months, when the swell of the sea is calmer. Then, in the pond, you can also observe the marine life that includes small fishes.

The Haleakala Park in Maui

On the island of Maui in Hawaii, is a national park around a volcanic area in red and black shades. Its endemic species and all its general appearance, seems like its from “another planet”, or at least with landscape features and parameters that have little to do with what most know.

The summit area of the Haleakala park includes the area of the peak of the volcano crater, a site which is accessible by road and with surprising cinder cones, along with its arid and panoramic views. Even Haleakala is a paradise for lovers of astronomy for its clear skies and no light pollution. Its features ensure a spectacular view of the night skies. In Haleakala, there are several endemic plant and animal species. This place also houses a lot of endangered plants.

One of the strangest plants in the park is the Haleakala Silversword, an endemic and threatened species which is currently in recovery. This plant grows in the middle of volcanic ash in dry, rocky areas, where it is able to withstand extreme temperatures and strong winds.

The park is also famous for its incredible sunsets, so that hundreds of tourists are up early to watch the sunrise from the top and near the crater.

The Drain of the World: Hawaii

Mount Waialeale is a true funnel water on Earth. It’s actually a volcano with a caldera that receives amounts of rainfall that is completely disproportionate. According to records, there is an average fall about 11,500 millimeters of rain a year, although, there have been up to 17,300 mm in one year. Without doubt, its summit is one of the wettest spots on the planet.

The caldera of Mount Waialeale reaches up to 1,569 meters high above sea level. This is located on the island of Kaua in Hawaii. According to estimates, it may reach 360 days of rain a year, which is something that happens uniformly and without regard to seasons. The reason of heavy rainfall is related to its geographic location, exposure to frontal systems that bring rain to the island, and above all, the conical shape of the volcano, reaching a height that literally makes “discharge funnel clouds.”

The cliffs of the volcano causes the moisture-laden air to rise quickly to the clash with the volcano, dumping rain in one place and not gradually as it would in an area that is less abrupt. On the other side of the mountain, rainfall is only a few millimeters per year.

Obviously, getting to a place like this is no easy task. The heavy rains make the so very wet and the roads are almost not accessible. The easiest way to know this incredible sight is through a helicopter tour.
