If you want to find the most extensive fortifications in Europe, do not go the usual locations in France, Germany or England. Instead, stop at a town called Ston in Croatia.
Ston is located 50 km north of the most famous Croatian city, Dubrovnik. Ston boasts twice the length of Dubrovnik’s wall. The walls stretch up to 5 kilometers.
The walls of Ston is hundreds of years old and was heavily damaged by an earthquake in 1996. The walls have been long-restored and can now be visited allowing you to enjoy a panoramic view over the town, as well as the salt marshes that are located within a walking distance.
Since summer is quite hot, it is better to wait until the evening or, early morning to enjoy the sunrise.
