The Curious Rocks of Australia

Henry Moore was an English sculptor known for his abstract sculptures in bronze and marble and undulating forms with holes, according to many analysts, inspired by landscapes of Yorkshire. However, thousands of miles away, there is a place where the works of Henry Moore seem to be on display, with a notable curiosity are natural rock formations sculpted by erosion for over thousands of years.

They are surely the most curious rocks of Australia:

The images of the rocks (Remarkables Rocks) are on the island Kangaroo, south of Australia, within a protected area of Flinders Chase National Park. The rock carvings are found on a rocky granite eroded by thousands of years. The park is also a sanctuary for endangered species introduced from the mainland.

Whitehaven, Australia

If you see Whitehaven in one of the brochures used to promote the Whitsunday Islands in Australia, you’d think that the image is manipulated, especially by their colors and shades.

However, this is certainly not the case. Whitehaven is one of the world’s most panoramic beaches. The Whitehaven beach is the main attraction of the island. It has an area of 4.5 kilometers of fine sand, that us white and bright. It is also perfect and unique, that it does not burn your feet when exposed to sunlight. This is due to its mineral composition.

Whitehaven is known for its natural beauty. This island is only accessible by boat tour.

The Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is an icon and a symbol of Australia. Even those who dislike or do not know anything about opera pay a visit to this famous opera house. However, the story behind the structure is not so marvelous.

Strongly supported by Eugene Goossens, then director of the largest conservatory in Sydney, its design was selected from an international competition held in 1955. The architect was Jorn Utzon. The Danish architect then moved to Australia to look after the construction. The construction lasted for more than 10 years, from 1959 to 1973. Marked by financial, technical, and human  hardships, it led to the dismissal of Utzon.

When the opera house was inaugurated on October 20, 1973, it was in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. Sadly, Utzon was not invited. It was only in 1999 that there was a final reconciliation between Utzon and the Opera, whose works were commissioned for modernization.
